Duties:

  • Travel – – Spend 3-10 days each trip to evaluate and recruit prospective student-athletes. – During game travel (4 – 5 days per trip) ensure student-athlete safety and health and monitor student-athletes as ambassadors of UAF and the Fairbanks community. Essential
  • Academic Advising – – Guide and promote academic success of student-athletes including their individual degree requirements, helping them detemine a plan that balances the rigors of playing a competitive NCAA sport and being successful in the classroom. – Monitor academic progress of individual student-athletes. – Provide a positive atmosphere conducive to the moral, academic and athletic growth of the student-athlete. – Serve as mentor to the student-athlete to ensure graduation. – Ensuring eligibility and academic progress of student-athletes, while adhering to and explaining NCAA rules. – Conducting and monitoring study hall sessions for student-athletes. – Monitoring student-athletes” progress in on-campus and correspondence classes. – NCAA and Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) rules Compliance – – Annually pass NCAA recruiting certification test. – Understand, abide and comply with NCAA and GNAC rules. Coaching: – Player development – – With the assistance of the Strength and Conditioning coach, develop and monitor the strength and conditioning program for individual athletes within the women”s basketball team to develop individual and team potential and lessen occurrence of injuries. – Monitor and encourage players” strength and conditioning levels. – Assist head coach with devising and facilitating practices. – Game Strategy – – Assist head coach with devising offensive sets. – Breakdown multiple videos of each opponent to learn what type of offenses and defenses utilized. – Develop scouting reports per opponent (describing player personnel, offensive sets, & defensive tendencies). – Game Coaching – – Managing play chart to keep track of plays run and if successful, track fouls and timeouts, and encouraging and correcting players after substitutions. – Camps and Clinics – Assist head coach with planning, promotion, and implementation of daily camp schedule. Recruiting: – Developing and implementing recruiting strategies. – Determining when, where and who to recruit and evaluating perspective student-athletes according to NCAA rules and team needs. – Passing NCAA”s Certification to Recruit Off Campus test. – Evaluating players in person and through film. – Sending UAF information to recruits. – Organizing and managing NCAA”s Compliance Assistant Internet recruiting database including entering recruits” addresses, phone numbers, coaches information and evaluations; recording of all mailings to recruits; upkeep of recruiting phone log. – Maintaining relationships with AAU, high school, and junior college coaches. – Maintaining relationships with recruits through phone or email either on the road, at home, at the office, or on cell phone. – Organizing official visits to campus including travel, academic meetings, and activities. – Assist head coach in planning and monitoring the recruiting budget. – Assist head coach with practice and game schedules. – Ensure compliance with GNAC film exchange policy by copying and sending game tape to other team”s opponents. – Contacting other coaches asking for game tape of UAF opponents.
