Jericka Jenkins has been named an assistant coach on the Texas State women’s basketball coaching staff, Bobcat head coach Zenarae Antoine announced Tuesday.
“Coach Jericka Jenkins is a rising young star in the coaching profession,” Antoine said. ‘As our program’s graduate assistant, she has shown her passion for not only the game of basketball, but also for her ability to mentor the young women in our Bobcat family.”
Jenkins, a native of Lancaster, Texas, has spent the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant and video coordinator on the Texas State women’s basketball coaching staff. As the graduate assistant and video coordinator, Jenkins managed and executed all video projects, assisted in scouting and team preparation for each game and was a vital piece in the day-to-day operations of the women’s basketball program.
“Jericka is a native Texan, played high school basketball in Texas and coached and recruited most recently at a Texas junior college,” Antoine said. “Her deep ties to the Lonestar State will add value in the recruiting process of the best, brightest and most talented players here in Texas.”
Prior to joining Texas State, Jenkins served as an assistant coach at Ranger College in Ranger, Texas, where her primary duties included recruiting, guard development, monitoring academic progress and strength and conditioning.
“I am extremely grateful to receive this opportunity to be on staff here at Texas State,” Jenkins said. “Coach Z and her staff welcomed me with open arms when I took on the graduate assistant role two years ago. I grew tremendously as a student of the game and I will continue to grow as an assistant coach.
“Being a basketball coach is truly something special and I am so proud that I’ll be able to share my experiences, both on and off the court, with our current and future Bobcats.”
Jenkins was a two-time first-team All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) selection during a four-year playing career for the Hampton Lady Pirates in Hampton, Virginia. She earned Associated Press (AP) Honorable Mention All-American honors following the 2010-11 season and was named Hampton University Female Student-Athlete of the Year as a junior and senior.
In May 2020, Jenkins graduated from Texas State University with a Master’s degree in Exercise Sports Science. In May 2012, she graduated from Hampton with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice.
“We are thrilled that Jericka will be continuing her professional career here at Texas State and will be a stellar asset to our staff and team,” Antoine said. It’s a great day to be a Bobcat!”
