Jamie Insel Joins BU Women’s Basketball Coaching Staff

The Boston University women’s basketball program has added Jamie Insel as an assistant coach ahead of the 2023-24 season, Head Coach Melissa Graves announced on Thursday morning.

“I am so excited to welcome Jamie to the Terrier family,” said Graves. “Her experience of coaching at high academic institutions makes for a seamless transition. There is no doubt she will help continue to facilitate a culture of supporting our student-athletes on the court, in the classroom, and beyond. Jamie is a tireless recruiter, and has been successful with development at the post position. I am looking forward to working alongside her and seeing her impact on our current and future Terriers.”

No stranger to the New England area, Insel has nearly 10 years of collegiate coaching experience across multiple divisions. Most recently, she spent the 2022-23 campaign as an assistant coach under Adrienne Shibles at Dartmouth.

“I am so excited to join the BU Women’s Basketball program,” said Insel. “I want to thank Coach Graves and her staff for providing me with this incredible opportunity. I look forward to helping our student-athletes excel both in the classroom and on the court. Go Terriers!”

Prior to her time at Dartmouth, Insel spent four seasons at Tufts in Medford, Mass. She was named the 2020 WBCA Division III Assistant Coach of the Year after the Jumbos recorded their longest winning streak in program history, capturing 26-straight victories en route to an undefeated regular season. Insel was also recognized as a WBCA Thirty Under 30 honoree, which spotlights 30 up-and-coming women’s basketball coaches age 30 and under in the sport.

From 2017-19, Insel worked at Colby College for two seasons as an assistant and interim head coach. Her coaching career started as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at MIT in Cambridge, Mass. Having helped recruit two NEWMAC Rookie of the Year recipients in three seasons, the team went 20-6 in her final year with the Engineers, a nine-game improvement from her first season.

Insel was a four-year member of the Assumption College women’s basketball program, earning NE-10 All-Tournament Team honors in 2013. The Greyhounds reached the Division II NCAA Tournament three times during her career.

A 2014 graduate of Assumption with a degree in Management, Insel received her MBA from Thomas College in 2020.
