The Jackson State women’s basketball program added two new coaches to its staff. Shanice Stephens and Tammy Bagby both bring significant experience on the professional, collegiate and high school coaching levels.
Stephens served as the head coach at the University of North Texas from 2008-11. During her tenure at UNT she had twelve players named to All-Conference and the program’s first Sun Belt Freshman of the Year. She also served as the recruiting coordinator at Clemson when the Lady Tigers had the 22nd ranked recruiting class in 2006. Stephens played collegiately at Oklahoma State where she was a member of two NCAA Tournament teams, including one that reached the Sweet Sixteen.
Bagby has 17 consecutive years of high school, collegiate and professional basketball coaching experience. She began her collegiate coaching career at Clark Atlanta University and had coaching stints at Morgan State and Tennessee State. From 2005-06 she served as a coach and evaluator for the Tulsa 66ers (NBA/D-League) try-out camp for women only. From 2004-06 she was a head coach in France, Germany, Switzerland, Australia and Holland. She played collegiately at Langston University, where she would go on to finish in the programs top ten in career three-pointers attempted and made, steals and assists. Following her collegiate playing career, she played professionally in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Stephens and Bagby join head coach Surina Dixon and assistant Terrence Johnson on the JSU Lady Tigers coaching staff.
