IUPUI’s Parkinson receives contract extension

The IUPUI Athletics Department and Director of Athletics Dr. Roderick Perry have announced that he and head women’s basketball coach Austin Parkinson have agreed to a contract extension to keep Parkinson on the Jaguar sidelines through the 2025-2026 season. Parkinson has guided IUPUI to seven 20-win seasons in the past nine years, including six WNIT berths and the 2020 Horizon League regular season and tournament titles.

The Kokomo-native and Purdue-graduate has led IUPUI to 200 career wins since taking over the program just prior to the 2010 season.

“My family and I are grateful to Dr. Perry and Chancellor Paydar for the opportunity to continue to lead this program into the future. Our staff and players love representing IUPUI and look forward to building on the successful culture we’ve established over the years in our program,” Parkinson said.

In addition to the on-court success, Parkinson’s program has been ranked among the nation’s best in the classroom during his tenure.

“Coach Parkinson has done a tremendous job leading our women’s basketball program. He is recruiting and developing his student-athletes at a high level while building on the his past successes,” Perry said. “The growth of our women’s basketball program has been remarkable. This extension will ensure our program will continue on an upward trajectory for years to come.”

He and the Jaguars will open the 2021-2022 season at Michigan on Nov. 9 in Ann Arbor.
