Georgetown has officially removed the interim tag from head coach Darnell Harney, and named him as the permanent head coach. The school teased the move last night:
They made it official today by updating the first paragraph of Haney’s bio on their website:
Darnell Haney came to the Hilltop for the 2023-24 season as the associate head coach on Tasha Butts’ staff. Following her passing, Haney was named the interim head coach and then earned the title of head coach in March of 2024.
Haney took over as the interim back in late October after head coach Tasha Butts passed away following a two-year battle with breast cancer.
This season, Haney led the Hoyas to a 22-11 record, and an appearance in the Big East Championship game – their first in program history. They bowed out to top-seeded UConn last night, and will now await the call for a post-season tournament.
