Megan Dzikas ’12, a Florida Southern College alumnus and four-year member of the women’s basketball team has been officially announced as the head coach after serving as the interim head coach since August 2022. Dzikas will become the 8th head coach in Southern women’s basketball history, announced the Director of Athletics & Dean of Wellness Drew Howard.
“We are proud to announce Megan as our next coach,” said Howard. “She not only is a fantastic coach but a great alumna that connects well with players, staff, and the FSC community. We can’t wait to watch and cheer her on from the sideline. We are excited for the future of women’s basketball.”
Dzikas has been a member of the Moccasins staff since 2019-20 and has been a part of 44 wins over three seasons with 31 wins in SSC play. She was a four-year standout on the hardwood for the Mocs, where she was a two-time All-SSC student-athlete and helped lead Florida Southern to an 87-31 record including a 49-9 mark in league play. So far this season, Dzikas is leading the Mocs looking for its’ 27th title as the team owns a 7-6 overall record while being 3-3 in the SSC.
“I would first like to thank Dr. Kerr, Drew Howard, and all administration for their support through this process,” said coach Dzikas. “It’s a dream to lead this program where it all started for me. My staff and I are looking forward to continuing our rich and successful traditions both on the court and in the classroom.”
Dzikas returned to her alma mater in 2019 as an assistant coach. One of the most prolific three-point shooters in school history, Dzikas found her way back to Lakeland after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at Saint Leo University. Prior to that, she spent two seasons at the NAIA level as an assistant coach (2014-15) and head coach (2015-16) at St. Catharine College in Kentucky.
At Saint Leo, Dzikas helped breathe new life into a program that had won just five games in the season prior to her arrival with then-new head coach Anthony Crocitto. After a 5-22 record in 2015-16, Saint Leo went 9-18 the following year and eclipsed the 10-win mark in each of the next two seasons. She also helped coach Chelsey Springs to first-team All-SSC accolades as a senior. The success of the Lions’ program was recognized by WBCA as Dzikas was named on the 30 under 30 honorees.
Prior to her time at St. Catharine, Dzikas was a graduate assistant for two seasons at Goucher College, a Division III institution in Maryland.
A two-time all-Sunshine State Conference player for the Moccasins during her collegiate career, Dzikas helped lead Florida Southern to an 87-31 record, including a 49-9 mark in conference play. She also led the Mocs to a pair of SSC regular-season titles and one SSC Tournament championship. Dzikas was also part of a team that finished as the runner-up in the NCAA South Regional in back-to-back seasons. She was the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year in 2008-09.
She finished her career with 1,368 points, good for 12th in program history, and ranks second in school history in assists (515). She also ranks among the top five in FSC history in three-pointers made and attempted, and three-point percentage.
An honorable mention All-SSC selection as a sophomore, Dzikas closed out her Florida Southern career by earning second-team All-SSC honors after helping lead the Moccasins to a 24-7 record and an NCAA South Region runner-up finish as a senior.
Dzikas played at Manatee High School before attending Florida Southern. She is a 2012 graduate of FSC with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and has also earned her master’s degree in education from Goucher College (2014)
