Indiana State names assistant

Head coach Teri Moren announced the addition of John Marcum to the Indiana State women’s basketball coaching staff. Marcum comes to ISU after spending the past two seasons as the head coach at California Baptist University.

Marcum posted a 47-12 record in two seasons at CBU, leading the team in his first season to a 27-8 record that set the school record for wins in a single season. The Lancers captured their first ever conference championship in Marcum’s first season in 2010-11, reaching as high as No. 3 in national rankings while making the school’s first national tournament appearance since 1982.

Prior to taking the head job at CBU, Marcum spent seven seasons as an assistant coach at NAIA-member Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla., from 2002-2010. He served as an assistant with the men’s basketball team from 2002-2006 before assisting on the coaching staff for the women’s team from 2007-2010. During his tenure with the women’s program, the Bison went 92-14 and were 60-6 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, winning consecutive conference titles in 2008-09 and 2009-10.
