Ickes Becomes All-Time Wins Leader in Malone Women’s Basketball History

Malone earned its 13th win of the season with a 58–41 victory over Thomas More, improving to 13–4 overall and 6–3 in G-MAC play. The win marked a milestone moment for head coach Selana Ickes, who recorded the 131st victory of her career, becoming the all-time wins leader in Malone women’s basketball history. Ickes surpassed the previous record held by Malone Athletics Hall of Famer Kathy Haas, which had stood since 2001.

Now in her eighth season leading the Pioneers, Ickes has built Malone into one of the G-MAC’s most consistent programs. She guided the Pioneers to a 22–8 record in 2024–25, highlighted by a program-record 13-game winning streak and her 100th career win. That season, Malone ranked nationally in several categories, including rebound margin, three-pointers made per game, three-point percentage, and scoring defense.

Under Ickes’ leadership, Malone has earned six consecutive G-MAC Tournament appearances, an NCAA Division II at-large berth in 2022–23, and multiple postseason wins. Her teams have consistently ranked among the nation’s leaders offensively and defensively, while producing numerous All-Conference and All-Region performers, including Erin Kaufman, who earned multiple postseason honors during her career.

Ickes joined the Malone staff in 2016 as an assistant before taking over the program in 2018–19. She previously helped guide the Pioneers to a G-MAC Tournament Championship and the program’s first-ever NCAA Division II Midwest Regional appearance, laying the foundation for one of the most successful eras in Malone women’s basketball history.
