Demetria Frank Named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Bethune-Cookman University

Bethune-Cookman University Women’s Basketball Coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis announced the appointment of former Wildcat standout Demetria Frank as an assistant coach.

Frank, a Miami native, played here from 2007-12 and left as the program’s second all-time leader scoring with 1,567 career points and career records for free throws  (854) and 422 steals, also good enough for 15th on the all-time NCAA Division I career list. She was the 2012 steals national champion with an average of 4.25 per game. Frank was a two-time All Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference selection.

This is the first time that Blair-Lewis has hired one of her former players for her staff.

“It was an absolute no brainer when it came to hiring Demetria Frank,” Blair-Lewis said. “She truly embodied the word STUDENT ATHLETE when she donned the Maroon and Gold.

“She is still one of the most prolific players in the program and one of the best players that I have had the honor to coach,” Blair-Lewis added. “Equally, she is a tremendous person and was a leader for our program during her years.”

After graduation, Frank took her talents overseas, playing for the Eastern Mavericks women’s team in Australia’s Premier League before returning to the U.S. to launch her own marketing company.

“Demetria played the game with such passion and determination and I know that she will carry those traits with her as she begins her new role as Coach,” Blair-Lewis said. “Our Lady Wildcats are blessed to have her as a coach. I know that she will inspire, motivate and directly impact their lives on a physical, mental and spiritual level for years to come.
Blair-Lewis also announced that Chandler McCabe, who has been with the program since 2014, will now handle Recruiting Coordinator Duties.

Bethune-Cookman posted a 21-11 record last season – its highest win total since 1985 – and played in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament championship for the first time in 25 years. The Wildcats participated in the WNIT for the second straight year.
