Houston Baptist hires assistant

HBU women’s basketball head coach, Donna Finnie, has announced the hiring of Rebecca Allison as an assistant coach.

Along with her coaching duties, Allison will be pursuing her Masters in Education at HBU.

"I am delighted that we are welcoming Becca to our family here at HBU," said Finnie. "It has been fantastic seeing her grow so much at Old Dominion and mature into such a positive and inspiring young woman. Wendy Larry and Karen Barefoot both had huge influences on Becca and her time there has prepared her very well for her initiation into the coaching world.

"Her playing experience at ODU, European Championships, and the World University Games will be so valuable as she works with our guards on the floor.

"I am excited for what Becca will bring to our recruiting efforts, as she has a contagious personality that recruits will connect with immediately," continued Finnie. "She also will spearhead our community outreach programs, which she has demonstrated is a passion and strength of hers. She was very active at Old Dominion in the community and athletics department, so I am excited about the energy she will bring to our program."

Allison, an Edinburgh, Scotland, native, comes to Houston from Old Dominion University, where she was a four-year letterwinner for the Monarchs basketball team from 2010-14. She was Academic Athlete of the Year her sophomore year and finished her career at Old Dominion with a 4.0 GPA. Allison was team captain her senior year and was also named the Conference USA Spirit of Service Award recipient. She earned her degree in sport management with a minor in marketing.

She has represented both Great Britain and Scotland in the European Championships. She averaged over 10 points a game in the European "B" Championships. She also represented Great Britain in the World University Games in China in 2011. Playing for the COE Kool Kats in Edinburgh prior to her US move, Allison and her team won the Scottish National League and the Scottish Cup. She was named MVP every year since 2006-07 and earned Women’s Player of the Year accolades in 2008-09.

"I am really excited to be joining the HBU family and Coach Finnie’s staff," said Allison. "Having been coached by Donna at the European Championships, I know how passionate she is about the game of basketball and I can’t wait to help her and the team achieve great success in the Southland Conference."
