Annette Watts has resigned as women’s basketball coach at Jacksonville State University to pursue other opportunities, athletics director Warren Koegel announced Tuesday afternoon.
Watts spent three seasons at Jacksonville State, joining the Gamecocks in May of 2010, after spending nine years at Davidson. She was the program’s winningest coach at Davidson and has a career coaching record of 159-193 in 13 seasons as a head coach.
“Coach Watts expressed to me that she felt this was the right time to explore other opportunities,” said Koegel. “I want to thank Annette for all of her efforts in leading our women’s basketball program for the last three years, and wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
Prior to her arrival at Davidson, Watts spent time as head coach at Jackson County (Ga.) High School, Greeneville (Tenn.) High School and Robert Wood Johnson (Ga.) High School. She also served two years as an assistant under Hall of Fame coach Kay Yow at NC State, where the Wolfpack advanced to the 1998 NCAA Final Four.
Koegel announced that assistant coaches Jason Williams and Yvette Sparks will both remain on staff and run the day-to-day operations of the women’s basketball program as the University conducts a national search for Watts’ replacement.
