Bakersfield Athletic Director Jeff Konya has announced women’s basketball coach Greg McCall has recently signed a three-year contract extension to remain at the helm of the Roadrunners. With the three additional years, McCall’s contract now runs through the 2017-18 season.
"Coach McCall has helped rebuild our program into a contender in the WAC. We wanted to make sure he would continue to be here for the long-haul,” Konya said. “He has shown a dedication to this program and to this community. These are results that deserved to be rewarded.”
The financial terms of the extension are similar to the original contract that McCall signed when he became Bakersfield head coach back in Spring 2011.
McCall is coming off a 2013-14season in which he led the Roadrunners to a 19-12 overall record and a 12-4mark in the first season of WAC play for the ‘Runners. Bakersfield finishedsecond in the WAC, advancing to the semifinals of the WAC Tournament and participated in the WNIT for the first time.
“I want to thank Jeff (Konya), Dr. (Thomas) Wallace, and certainly Dr. (Horace) Mitchell for their confidence and commitment they have shown in us,” said McCall. “My staff and I are grateful to have this opportunity to continue to build this program. We are confident inour student-athletes, in CSU Bakersfield and this community. We are excited about continuing to build the future of this program and developing our youngladies both on and off the court.”
The Roadrunners should be a favorite to win the WAC in 2014-15 as Bakersfield returns eight letter winners including 2014 All-American Tyonna Outland. The 2014-15 campaign begins Nov. 14 when the ‘Runners host Air Force. Other significant games on the 2014-15 schedule include road games at Arizona, Arizona State, and Nebraska and home contests against Fresno State, UNLV, UC Irvine, and UC Santa Barbara.
