HOT: Extension for Borseth at Green Bay

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and head women’s basketball coach Kevin Borseth have agreed to a contract extension through the 2018-19 season, Director of Athletics Mary Ellen Gillespie announced on Tuesday.

“Kevin Borseth is an outstanding coach and is the right person to be leading our program and our young women,” Gillespie said. “He is exceptional at recruiting and developing student-athletes on the court and has high expectations for their academic performance. Our young women excel in the classroom, are engaged in the community and win championships on the court. I am confident Green Bay will continue to compete at the highest level under Kevin’s leadership.”

“It is a privilege to be a part of Green Bay,” Borseth said. “We are working hard to bring our program to the level of expectation the past teams have created. At this point we are focused on being our best and going from there. We have a very hungry group of players who are demonstrating that work ethic that’s so necessary. I’m excited to have the chance to coach them, and I am thankful to Chancellor Miller and Mary Ellen Gillespie for the continued opportunity to be a part of this University.”

Last season, Borseth led the Phoenix to its 16th-consecutive Horizon League regular season title after going 13-3 in conference action. The team advanced to the WNIT and finished the season with an overall record of 22-10 for its 15th-straight 20-plus win season and 10th under his command in addition to its 37th-straight winning season.

Borseth owns a career coaching record of 579-245, leaving him 21 wins away from No. 600. He has coached a total of 27 years, including 11 years for Green Bay where he has amassed an impressive record of 267-75. He ranks 32nd all-time in NCAA women’s basketball coaching victories.

He has garnered Horizon League Coach of the Year honors in eight of his 11 seasons at Green Bay. Borseth will coach the youngest team in the Horizon League this season in hopes of winning its 17th-straight regular season championship.
