HOT: Boston University to Make Women’s Basketball Coaching Change

Katy Steding will not return as head coach of the Boston University women’s basketball team, director of athletics Drew Marrochello announced today.

Steding recently completed her fourth season at the helm of the Terrier program.

“We would like to thank Katy and her staff for their dedication to our student-athletes and athletic department.” Marrochello said. “The expectations for our women’s basketball program are high, and after a thorough review we have concluded that a change in leadership is necessary at this time. We wish Katy nothing but the best in her future endeavors.”

Steding, who was named the program’s seventh head coach in June 2014, compiled a record of 31-88 during her four seasons at BU. The Terriers’ best showing in the Patriot League during her tenure came in 2016-17, when they reached the conference tournament quarterfinals after tying for fourth place in the regular season and had an overall record of 13-17.

This year’s squad won five of its first seven games in non-conference play before posting a 5-13 league record and falling in the Patriot League tournament first round.

A national search to replace Steding will begin immediately.
