Healy named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at St. John’s

St. John’s Women’s Basketball Head Coach Joe Tartamella announced the hiring of Kaity Healy as an assistant coach for the program on Thursday.

Healy brings five years of coaching experience with her to Queens following a four-year playing career at Seton Hall from 2015-19.

“We’re thrilled to have Kaity join our staff,” Tartamella said. “She posseses a relentless work-ethic and positive attitude that will help bolster our team day in and day out. Her familiarity with the conference as a player and array of coaching experiences will have an impact on our players.”

The Freehold, N.J., native most recently served as an assistant coach at American University for the past two seasons. In her role, Healy helped with recruiting efforts, developed perimeter players and worked as the liaison for academics and compliance on behalf of the program. Under her direction, the Eagles had 10 players named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2023-24.

Prior to arriving in the nation’s capital, Healy worked as an assistant coach for FDU during the 2021-22 season in which she helped lead the Knights to a Northeast Conference (NEC) regular season title and a berth in the WNIT. Following the Knights’ remarkable season they were honored with the NEC Coaching Staff of the Year award.

The year prior, Healy was a member of the 2021 Conference USA Coaching Staff of the Year, while working as the Assistant Director of Basketball Operations for Florida International University (FIU). With the Panthers, Healy was responsible for all aspects of team travel and worked as the liaison for equipment, facilities, academics and compliance.

During the 2019-20 season, Healy got her start on the coaching side with Holy Cross as the Director of Basketball Operations and an Assistant Coach. Along with all of the basketball operations responsibilities, Healy helped coach two Patriot League All-Conference players and one WNBA Draft pick during her single season with the Crusaders.

Healy is no stranger to the BIG EAST Conference, playing with Seton Hall from 2015 to 2019. With the Pirates, Healy was a four-year letterwinner and three-time captain on the court. She saw action in 85 contests, making 17 starts over her four years. During her tenure, the squad made three postseason appearances, including a trip to the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

In the classroom, she was a four-year selection to the Dean’s List for Seton Hall’s Stillman School of Business and to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team. In 2018, she was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, an honor society for student-athletes holding a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher.

Throughout her collegiate career, Healy received multiple opportunities for leadership development. She was invited to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s “So You Want to Be a Coach” program in 2019. She was selected to attend the New Jersey Association of Athletics for Women Leadership Symposium in 2018 and also served on Seton Hall’s and the BIG EAST’s Time Management Plan Committee in 2017-2018.

Healy was the women’s basketball team representative for Seton Hall’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and represented the University at the BIG EAST’s annual SAAC Meeting in 2017.

Healy graduated from Seton Hall with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in accounting in 2019 and currently resides in Astoria, N.Y.
