After helping lead the CSU-Pueblo women’s basketball team to a program-best 21-7 record last season, Leslie Haywood has joined the Colorado School of Mines women’s basketball coaching staff for the 2012-13 season, as announced by head coach Brittany Simpson.
The top assistant for head coach Kip Drown and the ThunderWolves over the past six seasons, Haywood helped lead CSUP to three RMAC titles and four trips to the NCAA Tournament during her seven total seasons on staff. She was primarily responsible for recruiting, player skill development and organization of team travel during her tenure at CSUP while helping lead the program to a 118-58 overall record during that span.
A four-year letterwinner for the ThunderWolves during her playing career, Haywood was a main figure in the CSUP’s 2006 RMAC Championship and first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament, also in 2006. She ended her career as the program’s all-time leader in games played – a record that has since been surpassed.
A graduate of the NCAA Women’s Coaches Academy and current member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, Haywood also served as co-advisor of the CSU-Pueblo Student Athlete Advisory Committee for the past seven years.
