UNCW women’s basketball head coach Nicole Woods has announced the addition of veteran coach Kevin Harris as an assistant coach for the 2025-26 season.

“Kevin is a proven winner,” Woods said. “Each program he’s been a part of, he’s helped rebuild. “He is a top-notch skills developer, hard worker, relentless recruiter, and most of all, student-athlete centered. We are happy to have him on our side!”

Harris arrives in Wilmington after three seasons as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Virginia State in Petersburg, Va.

“Thank you to coach Woods and Director of Athletics Michael Oblinger. I’m so grateful for this opportunity,” Harris said.

Harris helped guide Virginia State to two straight 20-plus win seasons in 2023-24 and 2024-25.

During the 2024-25 season, the Trojans went 23-7, including a 14-2 record in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. Virginia State made the NCAA Atlantic Region Tournament and finished runner-up at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament.

In 2023-24, The Trojans went 23-5 and reached the semifinals of the CIAA Tournament.

Harris spent two seasons at the NCAA Division I level with Norfolk State’s women’s basketball program. After serving as director of operations in 2020-21, Harris earned an elevation to assistant coach for the 2021-22 campaign.

In 2021-22, he helped the Spartans to a 17-12 overall and 11-3 record in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Spartans reached the conference championship game and earned a berth in the WNIT.

Harris began his career as the girls’ basketball head coach from 2018-20 at Salem High School in Virginia Beach, Va. He led the Sun Devils to a 29-20 record and two postseason appearances. He coached a pair of first-team all-region players and three all-conference honorees.

In addition to his coaching duties, he served as a special education teacher assistant and an academic counselor for student-athletes.
