The Harper women’s basketball program will be under new direction for the 2013-14 season. After head coach Nichole Jones put in her letter of resignation this week, assistant coach Jenny Turpel has been named the new head coach for the Hawks.
Turpel has served as the assistant coach for Harper for two years. She played collegiately at Lewis University in Romeoville and graduated with a degree in Sports Management in 2011.
"I’m looking forward to building the program up. It was definitely one of my goals to become a head coach, and I can’t wait to get started," Turpel said.
Turpel also said she is looking forward to the leadership role and is ready to hit the recruiting trail in search of more area talent.
"Jenny Turpel is a great fit for our program. She has playing, coaching and recruiting experience," said Harper athletic director Doug Spiwak. "Her degree in Sports Management also adds value to our team as we continue to strengthen an athletics program that provides extracurricular opportunities for degree-seeking students. Jenny has demonstrated excellence in her teaching skills and has developed an outstanding rapport with student-athletes. Once the local coaches, parents and athletes get a chance to meet her, they will recognize the opportunities at Harper for women to experience success in our basketball program."
