Utah Tech University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ken Beazer announced on Thursday that women’s basketball coach JD Gustin will not return to the program for the 2026-27 season.
“We are grateful for the dedication and leadership Coach Gustin has shown over the past 10 years,” Beazer said. “His commitment has left an indelible impression upon our women’s basketball program, and established a solid foundation for future growth. We wish him and his family the very best.”
Gustin compiled a 113-151 overall record in his 10 seasons as Trailblazer head coach. He led the Utah Tech program through the final four seasons of its NCAA Division II era, and its first six seasons of Division I competition.
Gustin won 15 or more games four times during his tenure, highlighted by a 19-12 campaign during the 2022-23 season, which included the first of Utah Tech’s two WAC postseason tournament victories. This past season, the Trailblazers played to a 9-20 overall record and finished in a tie for sixth place in the WAC standings (4-14).
Under Gustin’s leadership, Utah Tech garnered 12 all-conference honors, including four first team all-conference picks, and 66 combined academic all-conference selections.
A national search for the next Utah Tech women’s basketball head coach will begin immediately.
