Green Joins Women’s Basketball Coaching Staff

Oberlin College Head Women’s Basketball Coach Kerry Jenkins announced the appointment of Chanel Green as his lead assistant coach for the upcoming 2018-19 season.

“I am really excited to bring Chanel on board,” Jenkins said. “She has a strong basketball mind, and I believe she will fit right in with our team and the department as a whole. I know she is excited to get a chance to meet all of the players here in a few weeks.”

Green joins the Yeowomen coaching staff after serving as a volunteer assistant at NCAA Division I Hampton University last year. As part of the Pirates staff she developed accurate scouting reports and assisted with player development on and off the court. Last season Hampton finished the year with an 18-4 record with a 12-4 conference mark as they advanced to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference semifinals.

Prior to assisting at Hampton, she served as a Head Coach for the Hampton High School junior varsity team. Green developed her skills in player development as she administered team building exercises, set-up game and practice plans, and executed all other head coaching duties.

She also served as the Assistant Girls Basketball Camp Director at D.C. Parks and Recreation and worked as an intern for the Hampton athletic department.

As an undergraduate at Hampton University, Green played guard and appeared in 44 games for the Pirates. In 2016-17 she was named a captain and led Hampton to a MEAC Tournament Championship.

Green was on the Dean’s List three years and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Communications and minor in health education in May of 2017. She is currently working towards a Master’s of Science in Sports Administration from Hampton.
