Georgia Tech Adds Kelly, Kopatich to Staff

Georgia Tech women’s basketball has added a Director of Video Operations and graduate manager to its staff, head coach MaChelle Joseph announced today. Tyler Kopatich joins the staff as the new Director of Video Operations, while Austin Kelly will serve as a graduate manager.

Kopatich arrives on The Flats after a year stay at the University of Memphis where he served as the video coordinator. While at Memphis, Kopatich live coded women’s basketball games with Sportscode, created scout film, assisted in social media and produced materials for recruiting and camps.

“I am very excited to add Tyler to our scouting and video staff,” Joseph noted. “Tyler is extremely knowledgeable and hard working. He is very talented and is invested in women’s basketball.”

Before arriving at Memphis, Kopatich spent two years at Wichita State University, 2015-17, as the graduate assistant for women’s basketball. His responsibilities at Wichita State included video coordination, game film, graphic design, assisting with social media and maintaining equipment and supplies. From 2014-15, Kopatich was an assistant women’s basketball coach at Olathe South High School after holding a two-year stint (2012-14) as a student assistant at Ottawa University for Lady Braves basketball. Kopatich earned a bachelor of science in physical education from Ottawa University in 2014 and obtained a master’s degree from Wichita State in 2017 in sports management.

Kelly comes to The Flats after serving in the Cobb County Public School System for the past three years. An athletic coordinator for Cobb County since July 2016, Kelly also held the title of varsity assistant for boys basketball and junior varsity head coach at South Cobb High School. While a coach at South Cobb, Kelly helped lead the team to a 2017 region runner-up finish GHSA Class 6A final four appearance. He was also named the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Class 6A Assistant Coach of the Year. In addition to serving as the basketball coach, Kelly was also the head coach for track and field.

“I am excited to add someone with Austin’s experience level to our staff,” commented Joseph. “He will have an immediate impact on our program.”

Prior to his arrival at South Cobb High School, Kelly was the boys varsity basketball assistant coach at Kell High School from 2015-16. During his stay at Kell High School, Kelly helped the team finish as the region runner-up and reach the state tournament in GHSA Class 5A. A football letterwinner at Duke University, Kelly earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke in 2011.
