Georgia State hires assistant

Georgia State women’s basketball has added Katie Pate to its coaching staff, head coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener has announced.

Pate joins returning assistant Jocelyn Wyatt and recently signed assistant Erin Batth to complete the coaching staff.

Pate is a veteran of 15 years of collegiate coaching. She comes to Georgia State from four previous years at Lenoir-Rhyne as the associate head coach for teams that earned back-to-back NCAA Division II tournament bids and top 25 national rankings. Lenior-Rhyne won the South Atlantic regular season championship in 2013-14 with a 24-7 record. Ranked first in the NCAA II Southeast Region, Lenior-Rhyne played host to the regional championship. Prior to that, Pate was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Wingate. She has also been an assistant coach at Coker and USC Upstate.

"Pate brings a lot of intangibles to our program with her vast array of experience as a head coach, an athletic administrator and an assistant coach,” Baldwin-Tener said. “She will be a great role model for our student-athletes. She has a strong work ethic and will bring energy and enthusiasm to go with her high level of basketball knowledge. I am extremely excited to be able to add Katie Pate to our staff.”

As a head coach, Pate has six years of experience at the Division II level. She was in charge of the Belmont Abbey Crusaders from 2005-07 and the Coker Cobras from 2001-05. She guided Coker to the most wins in a season and advanced to the conference tournament championship.

As a player, Pate was a first-team All-Carolinas-Virginia Conference pick and a three-year team captain at Coker College. She still holds the all-time scoring record at her Hayward (Wisc.) High School.

Her collegiate athletic experience includes a stint as director of marketing and promotions at USC Upstate from 2007-09,
