American University women’s basketball head coach Megan Gebbia has agreed to a new contract with AU. The 2015 Patriot League Coach of the Year signed a three-year extension to remain with the Eagles through 2021.
In just her second season at the helm of AU’s program, Gebbia guided the Eagles to their first PL Tournament title, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
"I am tremendously excited to announce the extension of Coach Megan Gebbia’s contract with American University," said Dr. Billy Walker, AU Director of Athletics & Recreation. "This demonstrates our shared commitment to keep our program among the elite ranks in the Patriot League for years to come under Megan’s leadership.
"Coach Gebbia has clearly proven herself as an outstanding coach, but more importantly, she has demonstrated her vast ability as a leader, mentor and role model for our student-athletes. There’s no doubt in my mind that the future is bright for AU Women’s Basketball."
After leading American to a 22-10 overall record in her first season at the helm, Gebbia exceeded expectations in 2014-15 as American posted a 24-9 mark, setting the program record for single-season victories. Her overall career winning percentage of .701 is the best in Patriot League history, while she has also led American to an impressive 30-6 mark in regular-season Patriot League play and a 4-1 PL Tournament record.
"I am honored to continue my time here at American University," said Gebbia. "It has been a tremendous two years, and I am very excited for the future of this program.
"I would like to thank Dr. Walker and our administration for their support, and I look forward to representing AU over the next several years."
