Gardner-Webb women’s basketball has added one of its own to its coaching staff, as Morgan Pointer has been named the program’s graduate manager, as announced by GWU head coach Alex Simmons Friday afternoon.
“Morgan is a great addition to our coaching staff,” stated Simmons. “It’s always important to have people in this program who are passionate about Gardner-Webb and committed to our women’s basketball program. Morgan embodies that. She has aspirations to be a coach and this experience will be another stepping stone towards her goal. She is very smart, mature and has a high basketball IQ. She will be a huge asset for our post player development and overall team moral.”
Pointer finished her playing career for the Runnin’ Bulldogs this past March, seeing action in 114 games from 2016 to 2020. The Greensboro, N.C. native averaged just over 12 minutes per contest, posting a solid 40.9 percent career field-goal percentage.
“I am excited for the opportunity to join the coaching staff and look forward to learning the game from a different perspective,” said Pointer.
Pointer graduated from Gardner-Webb with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management this past December and is currently pursuing a Master of Sport Education degree.
