Fontbonne names head coach

Fontbonne University women’s basketball was in search of a new head coach after the resignation of Matt Wickenhauser. The three-year head coach decided to focus more on his professional career and family time.

"We are excited to announce that Maureen (Roberts) Sias will be returning to Fontbonne as our Head Women’s Basketball Coach," says Director of Athletics Maria Eftink. "Coach Sias knows Fontbonne University and Fontbonne Women’s Basketball from almost every vantage point, having been a player, coach, and now a valued alumnus. However, she will bring much more than her 10 years of experience as a Fontbonne player and coach to the program as she is a phenomenal teacher, mentor, and leader. We look forward to the future of Fontbonne Women’s Basketball under Coach Sias’s direction."

Sias is no stranger to the Griffin community as she played college ball at Fontbonne from 1999-2003 and was an assistant under long-time head coach Keith Quigley for five years. Sias is excited to re-enter the Griffin world stating,"I look forward to the upcoming season and working with the student-athletes. As an alum I am thrilled to be back as a member of the athletic department and ready to work hard and be successful. The women’s basketball program means a lot to me and I am so excited to have this opportunity to lead the team."

Sias holds several Fontbonne women’s basketball records: career free throw percentage (85%), most three-pointers in a game (8) and is second in highest free-throw percentage in a season (90.7%).

Under Quigley, Sias assisted in all aspects of the position recruiting, planning practices and critiquing individual talent. Most recently, Sias was the assistant coach for Ursuline Academy girls basketball with an emphasis on enhancing individual skills, play design and defensive strategies.
