Morton College athletic director Lee Milano announced that Gregory Fleming has been named head women’s basketball coach for the 2026-27 season, effective immediately.
Fleming brings a vast wealth of basketball knowledge to the Morton College program with coaching experience at the college, high school and AAU levels.
“It’s exciting to have Greg back on board,” Milano said. “He’s been here an assistant in our men’s program on our 2024-25 Skyway Conference championship men’s team. We’re happy to have him lead our women’s program in the future. We’re confident that Greg will recruit student-athletes that will allow the program to have success over a sustained amount of time.”
Fleming also is familiar with the terrain in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference and Region 4, having served as an assistant to current Morton College men’s basketball coach Jon Rush and most recently at NJCAA powerhouse South Suburban under John Pigatti.
He plans to draw on his experiences with Rush and Pigatti. Fleming calls Rush a brilliant “X and O” coach who knows the game, while crediting Pigatti with learning about the dynamics behind a winning program.
Fleming was a four-year varsity member and three-year starter on the boys basketball team at Roberto Clemente High School in Chicago. He later returned to Clemente as head boys basketball coach.
He played a year at Grand Rapids Community College in Michigan before finishing out his career at NAIA Lourdes University in Ohio.
“I’m excited to be back,” Fleming stated, “and for the chance to be part of what we’re going to build at Morton College. I’ve always wanted to be a head coach and what better place than Morton College. My goals for the program are to establish a winning culture and I want to get our player into four-year schools for free.”
