FIU Burks-Wiley Names Brittany White Assistant Coach

Head Coach Jesyka Burks-Wiley of the FIU women’s basketball team announced Brittany White as Assistant Coach on Friday.

“I couldn’t be more excited to add someone with Brittany’s work ethic, character, and knowledge to our staff,” said Coach Burks-Wiley. “I love that Coach White has found a way to win at every level she’s been at, both as a player and coach. I look forward to her being a part of our FIU family.”

White, a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Thirty Under 30 honoree in 2021, joins FIU after spending four seasons at Tuskegee University as an assistant women’s basketball coach.

“I would like to thank Coach Burks-Wiley, Athletic Director Scott Carr, and Senior Associate AD Heath Glick for this amazing opportunity,” said White. “Coach Burks-Wiley has laid a foundation of passion and competitiveness for the Panther program. I am honored and grateful to work with such a driven group of student-athletes and will continue to build upon that foundation”

During the 2021-22 season, White helped the Golden Tiger program win 22 games for an overall record of 22-5 and 15-3 in the SIAC, going on to win the Western Division Regular Season title. White also helped develop and coach the 2022 SIAC Player of the Year in Ashiala Jackson, along with the SIAC Defensive Player of the Year in JuToreyia Willis.

In the 2020-21 season, White guided Tuskegee to a 12-2 record while helping the Golden Tigers earn their first berth to the NCAA Division II Tournament since 2008. Throughout the campaign, the Lady Tigers were ranked as high as No. 16 nationally and finished the season ranked at No. 25.

White helped Tuskegee finish as the SIAC conference runner-up in 2019-20, while the Lady Tigers beat their first Division I opponent in 20 years with a 78-73 win over Georgia State.

In 2018-19, White helped TU achieve the school’s best record in 19 years, finishing with a 20-6 overall mark. The record marked the program’s first 20-win season since 2000. The Golden Tigers also advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament and ended the year with a 13-3 league record. TU’s season stood as one of the best turnarounds in NCAA Division II as the Lady Tigers won 14 more games than the previous year.

Prior to arriving at TU, White spent two seasons as an assistant coach with Francis Marion University women’s basketball. White’s primary responsibilities with the Patriots included recruiting, on-floor coaching, individual player workouts, and helping in the area of academic support for team members. In White’s first year with FMU, the Patriots went 18-12 and placed second in the Peach Belt Conference’s East Division. During White’s second year, Francis Marion posted a 16-12 mark.

Between 2013-15, White spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Delta State under head coach Craig Roden. During her time at DSU, the Lady Statesmen posted a combined two-year record of 43-16, while also making two appearances in the Gulf South Conference Tournament championship game. DSU also earned a bid to the 2014 NCAA Division II Tournament.

Before joining the coaching ranks, White played two seasons at Augusta University where she captained the Jaguars as both a junior and senior. As a senior, White helped lead the Jaguars to a 21-6 mark and a No. 6 national ranking for scoring defense (53.8 ppg) per game. The Jaguars led the Peach Belt Conference in steals (3.9 spg) and ranked fourth in NCAA Division II.

White spent her first two playing years at Southern Polytechnic State University, an NAIA Division I program. A two-year starter at Southern Polytechnic, White garnered All-Freshmen, All-Academic, and All-Tournament team recognition. White helped lead Southern Polytechnic to a pair of SSAC Tournament titles, two NAIA national tournament bids, and one Sweet Sixteen appearance (2010).

A native of Marietta, Georgia, White earned a B.S. degree in Kinesiology from Augusta University and an M.S. degree in sport and human performance from Delta State University.
