Eckerd women’s basketball head coach Paul Honsinger ’98 has promoted Ashton Feldhaus to Associate Head Coach.
“It was an easy decision to recommend that Ashton be named associate head coach. Everyone associated with our program understands the contributions she has made during her tenure. Her impact on our program has been tremendous and elevated our team in all areas. Ashton brings a winning mentality to everything she does, and that is reflected in our team’s success,” stated Honsinger. “Since Ashton arrived in 2019-20, our team has posted a 45-10 overall record and a 32-8 record in the SSC. She has also proven to be an exceptional recruiter serving as the primary coach responsible for signing 2021-22 SSC Defensive Player of the Year Lauryn Vieira and All-SSC Second Team Sofia Persson. She is extremely deserving of this recognition, and I know she has a very bright future in this business.”
Feldhaus joined Honsinger’s staff as the assistant women’s basketball coach in July 2019. In her three years with the Tritons, she has been instrumental in the program’s success with appearances in the NCAA Tournament in both seasons, including a trip to the regional semifinals last March.
In her first season in 2019-20, the Tritons won the Sunshine State Conference Tournament Championship. Eckerd also set a new single-season record for field goal percentage, ranking fifth best in the country.
In the 2021-22 season, she helped lead the program to another record-setting season as the team recorded the best start in program history at 9-0. Eckerd finished the season No. 24 in the WBCA Coaches Poll. She also coached three all-conference selections: the SSC Player of the Year, Maya Price, the SSC Defensive Player of the Year, Lauryn Vieira, and Sofia Persson, who was named to the second team and newcomer team.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Coach Honsinger. Nothing has been more rewarding than working with our players every day to help build Eckerd women’s basketball into a championship-caliber program. I am proud of what we have accomplished, and I’m excited to see what the future holds,” said Feldhaus. “Thank you to Coach Honsinger and the Eckerd College administration for this opportunity and for trusting me to help lead this program.”
Feldhaus also serves as the team’s academic advisor as the Tritons ranked third nationally on the WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor Roll with a 3.78 GPA in the 2019-20 season.
In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Feldhaus oversees a large staff of student workers for gameday operations for home contests.
Prior to Eckerd, Feldhaus boasted a strong playing resume at the NCAA Division I level at both Butler (Ind.) University and the University of Tennessee at Martin. In her first season at UTM, Feldhaus earned Second Team All-OVC honors and OVC All-Newcomer honors and was a six-time conference newcomer of the week while averaging 11.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. As a senior, she earned a repeat selection to the All-OVC second team despite being slowed by injury.
