Tallahassee State College is excited to announce a full-time opening for the position of Head Coach – Women’s Basketball – P02584 with the Athletics Department. We’re looking for someone who shares our commitment to fostering a vibrant campus community.
What You’ll Do
The Head Coach, Women’s Basketball will report to the Athletic Director and provide vision, leadership and oversight for all aspects of the basketball program.
Primary Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Recruits, trains and coaches the student-athletes participating on the men’s basketball team. Serves as a mentor and exercises leadership, especially to the women’s basketball student-athletes and assistant coaches.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes by monitoring their academic status and progress towards graduation or transfer. Ensures compliance with rules and regulations as established by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) and its Council for Athletic Affairs (CAA), the Panhandle Conference and Tallahassee Community College.
- Assists in managing women’s basketball’s annual budget and adhere to college and departmental practices relating to purchases and travel. Monitors expenditures and coordinates arrangements for team travel and incoming recruits.
- Actively participates in Panhandle Conference, FCSAA and NJCAA meetings, as required annually. Develops a competitive schedule of games with the approval of the Director of Athletics. Responds to questions and inquiries from external and internal constituents in a professional, timely and courteous manner. Assists in maintenance and upkeep of basketball facility. Assist in camps, as needed.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a candidate who brings not only technical expertise but also a passion for education and student success. Our ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Three (3) years of coaching experience and/or collegiate and professional playing experience.
- College coaching experience and/or a degree in sports management, physical education, health or a related field is preferred. A master’s degree in sports management, physical education, health or a related field is also preferred.
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING:
- Knowledge and understanding of the standards and requirements of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA).
- Knowledge of NCAA and NAIA transfer rules. Knowledge of TCC’s curriculum and graduation requirements. Knowledge of athletic recruitment, methods and techniques.
- Excellent and proven leadership skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent communication (verbal/written) skills. Excellent time management skills. Excellent multi-tasking skills. Proficient in MS Office. Operating a motor vehicle safely.
- Ability to teach and demonstrate specific women’s basketball skills. Ability to maintain an effective sports program. Ability to motivate a group of individuals and facilitate team-building. Ability to communicate and work with young people, especially young women Ability to work independently, as a team member and with other TSC coaches and athletic staff.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse students, staff, faculty, and administrators. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to monitor academic, athletic and personal development. Ability to work long hours and weekends. Ability to handle difficult and sensitive issues and resolve problems and conflicts. Ability to handle high levels of stress and anxiety. Ability to represent and promote the College’s athletic team at conferences, FCSAA and NJCAA meetings, games, meets, and matches. Ability to supervise subordinate employees.
- Ability to establish and foster long-lasting relationships with others. Ability to represent the division and the College in a positive and professional manner. Ability to travel over night to team competitions. Ability to participate in public relations activities, to include television and radio interviews, and press conferences, as appropriate.
