FDU women’s basketball head coach Angelika Szumilo announced Tuesday the elevation of Christian Mordi to the role of assistant coach and the addition of Camille McLellan as a graduate assistant. Mordi will be starting his second year on the banks of the Hackensack and McLellan enters her first in 2022-23.
“I am very happy to announce Christian’s promotion from the Director of Player Development to assistant coach,” said Szumilo. “Christian has a passion for the game of basketball that is second to none and his dedication to our program has been outstanding. I’m looking forward to Christian working with our players and helping them become the best they can be on and off the court.”
Mordi earns the promotion to the coaching staff after a year as the Knights’ Director of Player Development. Prior to FDU, he spent time as a coach with the U-17 and U-16 EYBL teams for the Nike-sponsored NYC Exodus program. Before that, he also served as the associate head coach at Christ the King High School in Newark, N.J., where he helped lead the Knights to jump from 13-13 in his first season to 23-5 in his third and final campaign with the program.
Mordi stated “FDU strives to provide students with intercultural and the ethical understandings necessary to participate, lead and prosper in the global marketplace of ideas, commerce and culture. These are things that align with my educational beliefs as well. I’m happy to have the opportunity to help student-athletes achieve their dreams on and off the floor. Thank you to Coach Ang and the mentors I’ve had that helped me get to this place I am now. Let’s go Knights!”
McLellan will also be joining the staff as the program’s graduate assistant where her responsibilities include recruiting, gameday operations and serving as the guard position coach, amongst other tasks. Before arriving in Hackensack, she gathered tons of basketball coaching and operations experience. McLellan’s stops include One Accord Sports, Thomas Worthington High School, Ohio State women’s basketball and Fordham women’s basketball.
“I am super excited about the addition of Camille,” commented the Knights’ fourth-season head coach. “She has a great work ethic, passion for the game and a contagious personality. She is an aspiring young coach with a bright future, and I am happy she decided to start that journey with us.”
McLellan added “I’m glad to be here and look forward to contributing to the program. I appreciate Coach Ang for the opportunity and can’t wait for the season to begin!”
