Evangel Womens Basketball Promotes Wilson to Full-Time Assistant Post

Evangel Women’s Basketball head coach Megan Leuzinger has announced the promotion of Paige Wilson to a full-time assistant coaching position for the 2020-21 season.

Wilson will move into a full-time post on the Crusaders’ varsity staff this year after assisting Leuzinger and serving as head coach of Evangel’s reserve team in her first season with the program in 2019-20.

“I am excited to bring Paige into a full-time role with our program,” Leuzinger said. “She is a go-getter, and the girls have enjoyed getting to know her over the past year. She has a great basketball mind and has done a tremendous job of building relationships with our players.”

In her first season with Evangel, Wilson helped propel the Crusaders back into the national spotlight during a 20-11 campaign that culminated in the program’s 11th bid to the NAIA National Tournament and its first since 2011. Junior guard Lexie Vaught earned her second-consecutive NAIA All-America honor as one of four Crusaders who brought home all-conference honors in 2020.

Wilson joined the Crusaders after spending two seasons on the staff at Springfield’s Greenwood Laboratory School, where she was a varsity assistant and head coach for the junior high program.

Before launching her coaching career, Wilson completed a standout basketball career at Drury University, where she helped guide the Lady Panthers to a 109-17 record in her four seasons (2013-17). She graduated from Drury in 2017 with a bachelor’s in exercise and sports science and sports management, before finishing her master’s degree in integrated marketing communication in 2019.

Additionally, Leuzinger announced Allen Wilson will also return for his third year on the Evangel coaching staff, while Dan Mathews will assume head coaching duties for the Crusaders’ reserve squad.
