Maryville University head women’s basketball coach Brita Hand announced that Max Ethridge has been named assistant coach for the Saints women’s basketball team. He comes to Maryville after serving as the Director of Basketball Operations at the University of Evansville.
“I am thrilled for the opportunity to work with Coach Hand and to join the Maryville women’s basketball program,” Ethridge said. “I have known Brita for many years and I have always admired the success she has had, the positive impact she has made on the student-athletes and programs she has been a part of. Maryville University is a sleeping giant where student-athletes can thrive academically, athletically, and socially. I can’t wait to get to work with the team and join the St. Louis community.”
Ethridge served as Evansville’s DOBO for the 2021-22 season and helped the Aces post their best winning percentage in six years. He helped Abby Feit earn Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Second Team honors. Prior to UE, he was a graduate assistant at the University of Northwestern Ohio. In January of his final season at UNOH, Ethridge was elevated to interim assistant coach for the Racers.
During his time in Lima, Ohio, Ethridge was responsible for coaching the guards and wings, helping Tori Lennartz and Jada Haines capture first-team all-WHAC honors and Lennartz receive NAIA Honorable Mention All-American recognition. In 2019-20, Ethridge helped the Racers to their best winning percentage in four seasons and earned a victory over No. 14 ranked Siena Heights, the highest-ranked opponent Northwestern Ohio had ever posted. He helped UNOH set a program record for the most threes in a season with 291.
Ethridge’s coaching experience also included serving as varsity assistant coach at Monona Grove High School and as a coach for Wisconsin Academy Basketball, an AAU team. He coached 15 players who received 28 selections to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All-State Team, including three Wisconsin Miss Basketball players (Hannah Whitish 2016, McKenna Warnock 2019, Bailey Butler 2021).
A 2018 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Ethridge served as manager for both Green Bay head coach Kevin Borseth and Wisconsin head coach Jonathan Tsipis.
