Oklahoma Panhandle State University women’s basketball head coach Victor Esparza announced that he is stepping down after five years in the position. Esparza has been a part of the men’s and women’s basketball programs throughout his tenure here.
“It’s been an honor to serve Panhandle State as its head women’s basketball coach over the past years,” Esparza stated. “The people in the Panhandle are certainly amazing, supportive, and kind. I have enjoyed my time; however, it is time for me to move full-time into the athletic director position.”

He held the position for a little over six years before moving over to the women’s basketball game. He had the opportunity to coach at Missouri Southern State University and Raton High School before returning to the Panhandle. In 2016, Esparza took the assistant women’s basketball job, under head coach Charles Terry. Esparza was tagged head coach the following year and led the Aggies to a 14-14 season. Esparza, throughout the years, led the team to back-to-back Sooner Athletic Conference Tournaments produced countless Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) awards, 24 SAC Academic All-Conference players, and 10 SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Lastly, Esparza has coached the past two seasons NAIA honorable mention, Cassia McCaskill.
Interim President Dr. Ryan Blanton stated, “Coach Esparza is a tremendous asset to Aggie Athletics. His passion and dedication to our basketball programs these last several years have been inspiring.
