Carly Thibault, the director of recruiting operations for the Florida State University women’s basketball team for the past year, has been named an assistant women’s basketball coach at Eastern Michigan University, Head Coach Tory Verdi announced today, April 29.
"I am excited to announce the hiring of Carly Thibault," said Verdi. "We have hit a home run with this hire and I know that she makes us better today. Her energy is infectious, and she has a drive to succeed that is off the charts."
In Tallahassee, Fla., Thibault (pronounced Tee-bow) was responsible for coordinating recruiting travel schedules for the coaching staff, managing the team’s recruiting database and communication plan as well as assisting in running the team’s basketball camps.
The native of East Lyme, Conn., enjoyed a strong collegiate career at Northeast Conference school Monmouth from 2009-13. Thibault was a prominent player from beyond the arc, finishing third in program history with 166 field goals made for her career. Thibault shot nearly 37 percent for her career from three-point range, including 40 percent as a junior and a career-best 44 (.439) percent to highlight her senior year. Highlighting her career was an All-NEC Third Team selection in 2013 and the 2012 Team Coaches’ Award.
Thibault also made her living as a consistent free-throw shooter for the Hawks, averaging 75.3 percent from the charity stripe in her four-year career. In each season, she never fell below 74 percent from the free-throw line, and also played in nearly every game for the Hawks with the exception of two.
Perhaps most notable on her list of accomplishments at Monmouth were her off-the-court achievements. As a psychology major with a double minor in health studies and Spanish, Thibault was honored as the NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year following her senior season. She also was named to the CoSIDA All-District II First Team, earned the Kelsey Award given to the Monmouth student-athlete with the highest GPA and was also honored with the Monmouth Alumni Association Academic Achievement Award.
Thibault starred at East Lyme High School, leading her team to a 58-22 record in four seasons. Her high school squad won a Connecticut State Championship in her junior season, while Thibault got the nod as a First-Team All-East Connecticut Conference selection twice. She was also a McDonald’s All-America Nominee in high school.
Additionally, her father, Mike, is a longtime NBA and WNBA coach, and is currently the head coach of the Washington Mystics.
