The Elon University women’s basketball program and head coach Charlotte Smith announced the addition of Melody Prichard to the staff. Prichard will serve as the Phoenix’s Director of Basketball Operations.
Prichard arrives at Elon after spending the 2023-24 season at her alma mater, Winston-Salem State University (WSSU), an assistant coach. She initially served as a graduate assistant under head coach L’Tona Lamonte before being promoted to assistant coach. In that role, she contributed to the program’s development and overall success, notably helping guards Jakaiya Mack and La’Niya Simes earn CIAA All-Rookie Team honors, while Amaya Tucker was named CIAA Player of the Year in 2022-23.
Prichard transferred to WSSU in 2019 after playing her first two collegiate seasons at Molloy College. She made an immediate impact, appearing in 30 of the team’s 31 games and starting 19. She led the Rams with 329 total points, averaging 11.0 points per game. Notably, she scored a career-high 28 points in games against Saint Augustine’s and Lincoln (Pa.).
As a senior, Prichard started 17 games and averaged 10.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. She led the team in blocks, ranked second in free-throw percentage at 82.0%, and eclipsed 1,000 career points during the season.
A native of North Carolina, Prichard graduated from Knightdale High School before earning her bachelor’s degree in business administration and later her MBA from WSSU. She is the daughter of Tonya and Jeffery Prichard Sr.
