Elon University head women’s basketball coach Charlotte Smith has announced the addition of Kelvin Long Jr. as an assistant coach to her coaching staff.
Long brings extensive coaching experience at both the Division I and Division II levels, including six seasons as the head coach of the North Greenville University women’s basketball program. Prior to that, he spent three years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the College of Charleston, following a two-year stint as an assistant at Charleston Southern University.
Long also served in the Atlantic Sun Conference, working as an assistant coach at both Kennesaw State and East Tennessee State University. During his time at ETSU, Long played a key role in guiding the Buccaneers to conference championships in 2008, 2009, and 2010. He has a strong track record of developing talent, most notably helping guards Siarre Evans and TaRonda Wiles earn Atlantic Sun Co-Player of the Year honors in 2010, with Evans also being named Conference Player of the Year and an All-American finalist in 2008.
A Knoxville, Tennessee native, Long earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from the University of Tennessee in 2004 and completed a master’s degree in sport management at ETSU in 2010. The Phoenix family is excited to welcome Coach Long, his wife Sharon, and their daughters Nakiya and Jayah.
