Elmhurst names Perez as new Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach

Elmhurst University Head Women’s Basketball coach Jason Pruitt announced the hiring of Clarissa Perez as Assistant Women’s Basketball coach Thursday afternoon.

Perez joins the Bluejay women’s basketball staff after spending the past three seasons at the University of La Verne under Pruitt. Perez was a part of the staff that earned Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Coaching Staff of the Year honors after assisting the Leopards to a conference championship in 2022-23. Perez helped the Leopards achieve the number one offense and defense in the conference, with an average winning score margin of 13+ points per game.

Perez also served as the Director of Southern California High School Girls for West Coast Elite Basketball since February 2022, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the organization as well as serving as a 17 and under head coach. Perez also served as Head Girls Varsity Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at Saint Paul High School in Santa Fe Springs, Calif. since August 2022. At Saint Paul, Perez coached in the toughest high school division in Southern California with a strength of schedule of over .700, coaching four all-conference players.

A star player under Pruitt at both the University of Antelope Valley (2016-17) and La Verne (2017-19), Perez set single-game scoring (44 points) and single-season scoring (600 points) records at La Verne, being named to the first team all-SCIAC team and being named the Hero Sports DIII Female Athlete of the Year.

Perez holds a  pair of degrees from the University of La Verne, earning a Bachelor of Science in Sociology in January 2020 and a Master of Business Administration in May 2023.
