Elliott Named Associate Head Coach at Knox

A member of the Knox College women’s basketball coaching staff has a new title.

David Elliott completed his first full season as head coach Emily Cline’s full-time assistant coach during the 2013-14 campaign. He is now the associate head women’s basketball coach.

"David has done a great job in his first year as an assistant and I am pleased to promote him to associate head coach," Cline said. "David has a tireless work ethic and does a great job of building relationships with the players," she added.

The Prairie Fire averaged 87.4 points per game last season — the third-highest scoring average in NCAA Division III and a new school record — an increase of nearly four points per game compared to the 2012-13 season. Knox also ranked third in the nation with an average of 10 made 3-point baskets per game.

In addition, the Prairie Fire set new school records for points in a season (2011), field goals (643), 3-pointers (229), made free throws (496), and free throws attempted (745). Besides scoring and 3-point shooting, Knox led the Midwest Conference in forced turnovers per game (27) and turnover margin (6.09).

"Our players gained invaluable individual skill development under David’s tutelage, and it was apparent in this season’s offensive numbers. Not only did our points per game increase, but also our shooting percentages and individual scoring," Cline said.

The Prairie Fire’s overall field goal percentage improved by 3.7 percent while the team’s 3-point shooting went up 2.9 percent over the previous season. Knox also had five players average double-figure points per game.

Elliott’s primary duties include individual skill development of point guards and post players, as well as scouting opponents and recruiting the west coast.
