EKU Women’s Basketball Names Owings Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator

Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball named Abby Owings as assistant coach/recruiting coordinator, head coach Greg Todd announced on Monday.
 
Owings was a member of Bellarmine University’s staff last year as an assistant coach. During her time at Bellarmine, Owings assisted with scheduling, player development, was the academic lesion, prepared scouting reports and game plans, was the facilities lesion, and managed all social media accounts.
 
Before her time at Bellarmine, Owings was an assistant coach for Shawnee State University. While at Shawnee State, she helped lead the team to a 29-4 record and a Mid-South Conference Championship. During her time at Shawnee State she assisted as the recruiting coordinator, prepared scouting reports and game plans, mentored 13 student-athletes, was the director or basketball operations, player development coordinator for all positions, managed film exchange, assisted with strength training, scheduling, and managed all social media accounts.
 
During the 2018-19 season, Owings was a graduate assistant at Morehead State University under head coach Todd. Owings was apart of that team that went 24-11, finished second in the OVC and went to the second round of the WNIT Tournament after knocking off Ohio State in the first round. While at Morehead State she helped with travel coordinating, managed equipment, handled all game day operations, assisted organizing and promoting summer elite camps, coordinating film exchange with opposing teams, assisted with recruiting visits, and assisted with scouting reports.    
 
Owings played at Thomas More College and graduated in 2018. She appeared in three NCAA DIII national championship games with two national championships. She was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team and first-team all-conference as a freshman and a sophomore. She was a D3hoops.com All-America her sophomore-senior year.  
 
She was named a WBCA All-American as a junior and senior and became the school’s all-time leading scorer her senior year. Owings currently ranks second all-time in scoring at Thomas More.
 
Owings has worked with several elite players from northern Kentucky such as Maddie Scherr, Ms. Basketball in the state of Kentucky and plays at Oregon and Lauren Schwartz a Rice signee.
