Charlotte women’s basketball has named former first-round WNBA draft selection AD Durr as the Director of Scouting and Recruiting for the 49ers, head coach Tomekia Reed announced.
COACH REED ON DURR
“We are thrilled to have AD Durr join our family,” said Reed. “AD brings the next level experience and knowledge to our program. AD knows what it takes to play at the highest collegiate level and professional level and will be able to translate that toughness and competitiveness to our team. Coach Durr is someone who has met a lot of challenges and setbacks in basketball which helped push them forward and now AD will get a chance to teach that resilience to our players. Coach Durr will serve a significant role in our recruiting and player development. We are welcoming a great player but an even better person to our Niner family!”
Durr was selected as the second overall pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft by the New York Liberty following a standout college career at Louisville. Durr’s accolades include two-time ACC Player of the Year (2018, 2019), two-time All-American, McDonald’s All-American, and two-time Miss Georgia Basketball (2014, 2015). In college, Durr averaged 17.8 points per game while receiving the Dawn Staley Award and the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, which both recognize the nation’s best guard in women’s Division I college basketball.
“I am grateful for Coach Reed’s belief in me and for giving me the opportunity to be a part of her amazing staff here at Charlotte,” said Durr. “Coach Reed is the definition of a winner, and I am eager to grow as a coach under her leadership. Charlotte has an incredible reputation both academically and athletically, and I look forward to passing along lessons I have learned as a pro and being a part of Niner Nation while continuing that Gold Standard tradition.”
Charlotte begins their season inside Halton Arena on Nov. 4th when they host Presbyterian. The full American Athletic Conference schedule will be announced at a later date.
