The Great Lakes Valley Conference office announced tonight it has issued a public reprimand and undisclosed fine to Drury University head women’s basketball coach Steve Huber for violating the GLVC Sportsmanship Policy.
In accordance with penalties established in Section 17.F.1 of the GLVC Handbook, the Conference office determined that Huber’s postgame comments regarding an official who assessed him a technical foul while working Drury’s quarterfinal loss to Maryville at the 2014 Deaconess GLVC Basketball Championship Tournament on Thursday, March 7, were in direct violation of Handbook Section 1.A.1.c, which states in part that "Criticism of contest officials to the media is prohibited and may be treated as a disciplinary matter by the conference."
"The comments made by the Drury head coach have no place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference or the sport of basketball," said Commissioner Jim Naumovich. "The actions he displayed both on and away from the court in Thursday’s game are inexcusable and will not be tolerated in this conference."
The Great Lakes Valley Conference considers this matter concluded and will have no further comment.
