Dr. Reneé Brown, a former three-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division (PSAC) selection at Edinboro University and the 2008-09 PSAC West Freshman of the Year, joined Head Coach Mike Drahos’ women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach at Pitt-Johnstown.
Brown, a native of Pittsburgh, earned Second-Team All-PSAC West accolades as a sophomore in 2009-10, before being named to the first team in both her junior and senior seasons.
Also as a senior in 2011-12, Brown was a Second-Team Daktronics All-Atlantic Region choice, was named the Most Outstanding Player at the PSAC Tournament, and earned Edinboro’s Nancy Acker Senior Woman Athlete of the Year Award.
Brown finished her collegiate career as one of just seven Edinboro players ever to score over 1,000 points (1,430 points) and pull down over 700 rebounds (735 rebounds).
During her tenure as a Fighting Scot, Brown helped lead Edinboro to the No. 2 ranking in the nation on February 15, 2012, a pair of PSAC Championships, and two NCAA Division II Tournament appearances.
Brown graduated from Edinboro with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Physical Education with a concentration in Sport Administration in 2012, before earning a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Edinboro two years later. Brown went on to attend West Virginia University where she got her PhD in Coaching and Teaching Studies with a concentration in Positive Youth Development and Program Evaluation in 2017.
As a standout player for legendary Coach De Porucznik at Pittsburgh’s Mount Alvernia Catholic High School, Brown led the Lions to a WPIAL Championship and two runner-up finishes, and an appearance in the PIAA Class A State championship game. In addition, Brown garnered and First-Team Pennsylvania All-State, Best of the Best, and Fabulous Five honors following her senior season in 2007-08.
Prior to coming to Pitt-Johnstown, Brown served as the Supervisor for the Allegheny County Hometown Hoops Camp and the Special Events Coordinator for the Student Recreation Center at West Virginia University.
