Dowling names head coach

Vice President for Athletics Melody Cope has announced that Suzi Fregosi has been appointed head women’s basketball coach.

"We are extremely excited to announce the hiring of Suzi Fregosi as the next Head Women’s Basketball Coach. Suzi’s energy and passion for the game of basketball will have a profound and immediate impact on our program as a whole," said Cope. "We feel her success as a student-athlete along with her accomplishments off the court will guide our women’s program academically, athletically, and in the community."

The Long Island native was a standout athlete at Massapequa High School before becoming a four-year starter for Iona College. The MAAC All-Conference selection led the Gaels to a 90-79 mark during her tenure where she finished as the Career Leader with 531 assists. The guard totaled 580 career points, 271 rebounds and 165 steals.

Since graduating, Fregosi returned to the court coaching the AAU Long Island Lightning as well as leading Massapequa High School to their first Nassau County Championship since 2006.

"I could not be more excited to be a part of Dowling College," said Fregosi. "It is a place that already feels like home to me and has all of the parts necessary to be a successful program. I look forward to working hard and getting our Women’s Basketball program back to the winning tradition that Dowling is known for."

Fregosi graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and earned her Masters of Science in Teaching with a focus on Adolescent Biology. She currently resides in Long Beach, NY.
