Doucette named Women’s Basketball Head Coach at Augsburg

Mallie Doucette, who has served as an assistant coach at Concordia University, St. Paul for the past two seasons, has been named as the new head coach for Augsburg University’s women’s basketball team, the university announced.

Doucette, who played collegiately at St. Cloud State University, has served as a collegiate assistant coach at Concordia-St. Paul (2022-24) and at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (2019-20), and as a high school assistant coach at Minnetonka (Minn.) High School (2020-22).

Doucette replaces Ted Riverso, who retired in June after leading the Auggies for nine seasons, winning a school-record 128 games (128-82), and claiming Augsburg’s first-ever Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season championship in 2021-22.

“I feel so fortunate to be named the new head women’s basketball coach at Augsburg University, and I am excited to get started. I look forward to getting to work with these great young women, and can’t wait to continue all the good work that Ted and his staff have demonstrated during his tenure,” Doucette said.

Doucette served as the top assistant coach for Concordia-St. Paul, an NCAA Division II program in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, for the past two seasons under head coach Amanda Johnson, going 14-14 (10-12 NSIC) in 2022-23 and 20-8 (16-6 NSIC) in 2023-24, the team’s best record in six years. She handled the team’s offensive and defensive scouting reports and game film analysis, managed the recruiting process and organized and managed team fundraising opportunities.

She was responsible for the Golden Bears’ guard skill development, resulting in improvements in both scoring and outside shooting percentage. She coached two All-NSIC first-team selections during her Concordia-St. Paul tenure.

She served as the top assistant for coach Tonja Englund at Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2019-20, as the team finished 18-10 overall and 10-4 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, advancing to the WIAC playoff title game. She also served as an assistant sports information director during her year with the Blugolds.

Between her collegiate coaching stints, she spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Minnetonka High School on Bart Inniger’s staff, finishing 15-5 in 2020-21 and 21-5 in 2021-22.

Doucette played collegiately at St. Cloud State (2014-19), earning All-NSIC second-team honors in 2018-19. She was a three-time Academic All-NSIC honoree. Playing in 83 career games (18.8 minutes per-game), she scored 708 points (8.5 ppg) with 170 rebounds (2.0 rpg), 114 assists (1.4 apg) and 60 steals. She averaged a team-best 12.3 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per-game in 2018-19, as the Huskies finished 19-4 overall (14-8 NSIC) and reached the NSIC tournament semifinals.

A native of Colfax, Wis., Doucette earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and marketing from St. Cloud State in 2019, and earned her master’s degree in applied psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 2022. She lives in Bloomington, Minn., with her husband Brindley and their son Shai.
