The University of the Southwest Athletic Department is very excited to name Michael Dominguez as the newest Women’s Basketball Head Coach. Dominguez is originally from Tucson, Arizona, and attended Ironwood Highschool in Glendale, Arizona.

“I am thrilled to add Michael Dominguez to our coaching staff.  I believe he will do great things with our Women’s Basketball team” said Director of Athletics Steve Appel “He brings in some youthful energy and enthusiasm that I believe will mesh well with the girls.  I am anxious to see him and his girls in action this fall!”

Coach Dominguez joins University of the Southwest after stops as an assistant coach at Alderson Broaddus University, Ottawa University (AZ), South Mountain Community College, and Ironwood High School in Glendale, Arizona. On top of his impressive coaching resume, Dominguez spent time as a Senior Scout for Prep Girl Hoops as well as started a basketball training service, Dominguez Performance Group.

“I am extremely thrilled to be named the next Head Women’s Basketball Coach at USW. It feels like a dream come true and we are excited to make Hobbs our new home. I’d like to thank our AD, Steve Appel, for giving me this opportunity and trusting me with the future of the program. I believe that we can build a great program here that challenges our students’ athletes to become better players, better students, and better leaders. It all starts with establishing a culture of consistency and doing things the right way. I’m excited to get to work.” Said Dominguez.

Dominguez earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management from Grand Canyon University and is currently enrolled in a master’s program at Grand Canyon University. Dominguez will be moving to Hobbs with his girlfriend, Dakota, and their two dogs, Cali and Ghost.
