Dakota State University Interim President Dr. David Borofsky has announced that Jeff Dittman will serve as its Athletic Director and Head Women’s Basketball Coach, effective June 22, 2012. Dittman returns to Dakota State after a four-year stint as the head women’s basketball coach at Hastings College in Hastings, Neb. He compiled an overall record of 91-42 and 45-29 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) games. He guided the Broncos to three NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Tournament appearances – national runner-up in 2009 and two ‘Sweet Sixteen’ appearances in 2010 and 2012. During the 2009-10 season, Dittman guided his team to a No. 1 ranking in the final regular-season poll with an overall record of 31-4 and earned the GPAC conference title. In addition, he earned the Coach of the Year honor from the GPAC.
Dittman is no stranger to DSU as he coached the Lady T’s basketball team for 15 years. He took DSU to six national tournament appearances, including two ‘Sweet Sixteen’ appearances in 2001 and 2008. His teams also advanced to the ‘Elite Eight’ round in 2000 and 2006. He produced an overall record of 245-201 (.549 winning percentage) – most wins by a women’s basketball head coach at DSU – and earned five conference regular-season titles (two consecutive years in 2000 and 2001 and three straight seasons from 2006 to 2008).
In Dittman’s tenure at Dakota State, the Lady T’s were ranked in the NAIA ‘Top Twenty’ numerous times – ranking as high as No. 5 during the 2007-08 season. He was named the South Dakota Women’s Basketball College Coach of the Year in 2006.
