According to multiple sources, Cheryl Miller will be named as the next head women’s basketball coach at Cal State Los Angeles. The former standout at USC had spent the past two seasons as the women’s basketball coach at NAIA Langston University (OK) where she compiled a 49-12 record. Miller has also been the head coach at USC (1993-95) where she went 44-14, and spent four years as the head coach of the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury.
Current Cal State LA Director of Athletics Mike Garrett has also been the AD at both USC and Langston, and had hired Miller at both spots.
During her career as a player, Miller scored 3,018 points and hauled in 1,534 rebounds at USC. She was named Naismith College Player of the Year three times while leading the Trojans to a 112-20 record and NCAA titles in 1983 and 1984. Miller was named NCAA Tournament MVP both years. She also helped lead the U.S. to the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
An official announcement is expected shortly.
