Detroit Mercy fires Head Women’s Basketball Coach Bernard Scott

University of Detroit Mercy Director of Athletics Robert C. Vowels, Jr. has announced a change in leadership in the women’s basketball program as head women’s basketball coach Bernard Scott’s contract will not be renewed.

“We would like to wish coach Scott and his family all the best as they represented the University and the Titans with class and dignity for the last five years,” said Vowels. “These are always tough decisions to make, but at this time, I feel that we need to move in a different direction with our program.”

Scott led the Titans for the last five seasons and took the team to the Horizon League Championship in 2017, the first for the program since 2012.

In his tenure, the Titans posted a GPA over 3.0 four times, broke a school record twice for 3-pointers and saw five players earn All-Horizon League recognition.

A nationwide search for a new coach will begin immediately.
