University of Denver women’s basketball head coach Doshia Woods and the University of Denver Athletic Department mutually parted ways on Tuesday after Woods’ six seasons in charge of the Pioneers.
“I would like to thank Josh Berlo and Chancellor Haefner for the opportunity to lead the Denver women’s basketball program. I wish them nothing but the best as they head to the West Coast Conference next season,” Woods said.
“On behalf of the University of Denver, and the athletic department, I want to thank Doshia Woods for her work ethic and steadfast commitment to leading the young women in our basketball program over the last six years,” Vice Chancellor for Athletics and Ritchie Center Operations Josh Berlo said. “I appreciate the role that Doshia and the program embraced as campus and community citizens. We wish Doshia the best in her future endeavors.”
Berlo and the athletic department will begin a national search immediately for its next women’s basketball head coach ahead of the program’s move to the West Coast Conference next season.
Woods was named the program’s 11th head coach in July 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The head coaching job was her first after 10 seasons on the staff at Tulane and other coaching stops at Missouri, Oregon State, New Mexico State and her alma mater Western Illinois.
In her debut season, Woods picked up her first signature win against Colorado, a 70-69 victory in Hamilton Gymnasium, the program’s first win over their neighbors in a decade. Woods coached 2023 Summit League Defensive Player of the Year Makayla Minett, the program’s first player of the year not restricted by class since 2001. In 2025-26, Coryn Watts was named to the All-Summit League First Team, the program’s first, first-team honoree since 2020.
